The Florida Gators are the athletic teams that represent the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida.
All Gator athletic teams compete in the Eastern Division of the SEC, of which they are members of NCAA Division I.
All athletic teams have on-campus facilities for competition.
The overall athletic program is one of the best in the nation. The men’s and women’s teams have combined to win the Southeastern Conference All-Sports Trophy in every year but one since its inception. The Gators have also been in the top 10 of the National All Sports rankings every year for the past two decades.
Most recently, the Gators won back to back Division I Men’s basketball championships while winning a BCS National Title in football in between, all in 366 days. At those exciting games, there was plenty of Gator merchandise seen like Florida belts and caps.
The Gators’ most prominent current rivals are SEC Eastern Division foes, the Georgia Bulldogs and Tennessee Volunteers, and the ACC’s Florida State Seminoles. Florida has also shared past rivalries with the Auburn Tigers and Miami Hurricanes which have lessened in intensity in recent years.
The Gators have played in 34 bowl games, won seven Southeastern Conference titles, produced 135 All-Americans coming into the 2006 season, 35 NFL first round draft choices and three Heisman Trophy winners. Chuck Hartman, who retired as the Virginia Tech baseball coach in 2006, finished his career as the fourth winningest coach in Division I baseball history with a 1,444-816-8 record, including a 961-591-8 mark in his 28 seasons at Tech. Peter Hughes from Boston College is now the new coach for Virginia Tech.
Virginia Tech’s men’s basketball team has seen a resurgence of fan support since the arrival of coach Seth Greenberg in 2003-04 and its entry into the ACC in 2004-05. Greenberg’s squad finally made the Big East tournament in 2003-04, then a year later scored their first postseason berth in nine years when they made the NIT in 2004-05 as a first-year ACC school.
Virginia Tech’s women’s basketball team, led by coach Beth Dunkenberger, is a fixture in postseason play, having received a berth to the NCAA tournament each season from 2003 to 2006. Both basketball teams play their home games in Cassell Coliseum.
Virginia Tech’s football team plays home games in Lane Stadium. While at the home games, it is not uncommon to see fans with Hokies shirts but some fans have a Virginia Tech Hokies wallet. While, at a capacity of 66,233, it is relatively small in comparison to many other Division I-A stadiums, it is still considered to be one of the loudest stadiums in the country. Lane was expanded in 2004, the stadium is built in a way that naturally retains sound so as to amplify crowd noise.
Head coach Frank Beamer has become one of the winningest currently active head coaches in Division I-A football with 198 wins following the 2006 season.
Texas Tech University is a public university located in Lubbock, Texas.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders are members of the Big 12 Conference and compete in Division I for all varsity sports. The Red Raiders football team has made 31 bowl appearances, which is tied for 17th most of any university.
Texas Tech, the sixth largest university in Texas and the largest school in West Texas, has an enrollment of 28,260 students, representing 46 U.S. states and multiple foreign countries. With almost 30,000 students, you should expect to see different types of merchandise. Many of those students have things like a Texas Tech belt, shirts, and shorts. Of the varsity sports, Texas Tech has had its greatest success in women’s basketball. The Lady Raiders, led by player Sheryl Swoopes and head coach Marsha Sharp, won the 1993 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship. The men’s basketball team has made 14 appearances in the NCAA Men’s Division I Tournament. Bob Knight served as men’s basketball coach until February 4, 2008. On January 1, 2007, he become the winningest coach in men’s NCAA Division I basketball history, when Tech defeated New Mexico, 70-68.
