All about Jewelry

People with priced Jewelries are thought to be wealthy. Some of their jewelries are place not only in a garment but in their hair. The first pieces of jewelries were made of materials which are natural like bone, shell, wood and even animal teeth.  Some jewelry is buried with the wealthy owners in their tomb.

Other pieces like those which are attached to a garment are not considered as jewelries although they are decorative. Handbags and belts, buttons are not considered jewelries but accessories.

To adorn the body, jewelries were use in every part. These are used in the hair, toes and even in nose. High quality jewelries made of precious stones, gemstones and high quality metals and precious metals such as silver and gold are designed and created to be sold in great value. Other materials used and are mass produced are those that uses wire to wrap gemstones and other precious stones.

In the olden times or even up to now to few people, jewelries are thought to be their biggest wealth and are being stored. This can be use as dowry for weddings in some cultures.

In these days jewelries are considered a girls best friend. When somebody gives you jewelry it feels like you are having a joy in your life time. Those of course are those which are with high quality and priced items. Some are happy if they are given even not in high quality like fashion jewelries, others count the thought of the giver.

One of the precious jewelry that a woman dreams of is a diamond ring. It is not only expensive but it will last a lifetime. Diamonds are graded according to their characteristics which are, cut, carat, clarity and color.

Other younger women generations prefer gemstones and birthstones. Birthstones have been used since at least the first century as a way to give good luck on ones birthday.

However, gemstones are associated with each month and each precious stone has designated qualities associated with it.

Wedding anniversaries are very special occasions. Women would like to receive gifts in a form of jewelry from their partners. Although strands of Pearls which are thought to be symbols of love are also welcome. This classic piece comes in different colors like white, pink and black.

Gemstone healers use pearl gems to help one love themselves and help improve their self-worth. Giving a loved one a gift of natural pearls is one of the most love-filled gifts one can give. It allows the wearer to feel the love of the person who gave them the pearls.

Another classic beauty is Gold Jewelry. However, how can you tell a genuine from fake one? The easiest way to determine such is to look for the marking of karats. But sad to say these days we cannot determine it as the others have placed markings too. Just buy from a reputable jewelry store and manufacturers to get authentic pieces.

You should be aware that some gold pieces jewelry produces skin rashes to your skin or has allergic reaction. For sure these are fake ones. This can only mean it is not solid gold but filled or plated.

Another metal use for jewelry is Silver, once considered as more precious than gold. Now these precious metals are thought to be the most affordable and budget-friendly jewelry. Silver jewelry comes in different styles from simple costume pieces to simple silver bands. Silver can also be use with diamonds and other gemstones to produce an awesome yet affordable,   nice and beautiful jewelry pieces.

To care for these jewelries, one should avoid harsh chemicals of all kinds, especially in going to swimming pools; the chlorine can damage the stones and metals. Try to avoid also extreme temperature like excessive or too much sunlight. Banging your jewelries will have scratches on its surface.

Another way to make your jewelries last forever , it is advised that you take it off when you take a bath, or swim in chemical treated swimming pools. At night too you also need to take it off. When you sleep with the pieces of jewelries like necklace it causes chains to get stuck and weakened or get stretch or eventually break. Leaving other jewelries in your body like earrings and rings will get them dirty and may lose their spark.

It is best to store them in a jewelry box lined with soft velvety cloth and do not expose them to extreme sunlight.

You can buy jewelries from jewelry auctions in your area or even from the internet from online jewelry auctions.

With so many great choices, you may still have a difficult task locating gents watches that are perfect for the man in your life. So here are a few tips on buying the right watch for the man in your life:

1. Discover as many things as possible about the man in question. What are his hobbies? Recreational activities? Interests?

2. Ask someone who is close to the gentleman in question. People enjoy helping and will want to offer their suggestions.

3. Think about the type of man he is. How does he dress? Does he consistently wear certain colors and styles? These are keys to ascertaining his fashion style.

Certain watch brands have a reputation for various key elements. These are the components, which make their brand unique. For instance, the TAG Heuer brand is widely known for its sports watches. The Aquaracer is TAG Heuer’s best-selling watch worldwide. It has an original design that is combined with unmatched reliability and precision. Luxury Men’s Watches: An Expression of Individuality

Why does a man want a luxury watch? It is said that if you meet an Italian, the first thing he will look at it are your shoes, the next is your watch. Perhaps he knows something you do not. He is from a long, time-honored tradition of style. Sadly, many men don’t give much thought to style. The exception can be in a luxury watch. Yes, many of us wear a cheap, drugstore watch as if it is nothing more than a timepiece. But when we wear a watch that matters, we are saying so much more about ourselves. Mens watches are no exception.

It can be said that men have gotten the short end of the stick when it comes to high-end luxury accessories. Fashion statements for men can be limited to a nice set of cuff links or an expensive pair of shoes. However, watches transcend fashion. Men can wear a luxury watch with a certain amount of pizzazz.

Women have had the luxury of luxury for a long time now. A luxury watch for a man may be the one significant piece of jewellery he may ever wear, except for his wedding ring. Maybe men only wear luxury watches to impress others. And there may be some truth in this. Large gold watches do make a statement that says, “I’ve arrived.” Many executives and successful entrepreneurs mark this arrival with a beautiful, expensive watch.

Watch manufactures understand some of the psychology behind why men wear the luxury watches that they do. A big, bold watch expresses a cutting edge trend. Watchmakers encourage this habit. It makes a statement about the watchmaker as well. This may suggest the concept of “being in the know;” a sort of boys with toys approach to luxury gents watches

Some men take a different, more under-stated approach. They are looking for classic, simple timepieces such as the kind Audemars Piguet makes. His watches are less ostentatious than their more muscular competition. With fine detailing, they say just as much about the desire for luxury. Today, men also seem to be attracted to fashionable components such as unusual dials, indicators that hint at mechanical complexity.

Sports watches can sometimes be seen as luxury watches. They say much about the individual who wears one. For example, you may choose a large beautiful diving watch, not so much because you dive, but more so to hint at a secret life of luxury. Or perhaps you wear a golf watch as your personal expression of luxury. Watches seem to have crossed over. You will find a sports watch that looks great with an expensive suit. Look at a watch such as the Royal Oak from Audemars Piguet, or the Ebel 1911.

There is something afoot called “watch ward-robing,” a fad for men with more than one watch. In fact, some men have three or four beautiful luxury sport watches.

It can be said that watches are almost becoming obsolete. With all the electronic devices we use as timepieces, why wear a watch? Because luxury watches have evolved. Now men wear designer watches more as a form of self-expression than as a time-telling necessity.

If you really want to spring for luxury, take a look at Louis Vuitton’s Tourbillon Tambour watch. This watch can be personalized with its owner’s initials on the face. The owner can have his choice of face color, bands, and precious stones or diamonds. This watch is definitely a piece of jewellery. It starts at a mere $178,000. The watch takes 6-8 months to make. The company only makes about one watch per month. Some men have three or four of these watches for the office, the weekend, or for sports. After all, you can’t bring your luxury car into a business meeting. But you can wear beautiful designer watches that peek from beneath your shirt cuff when you seal that important business deal.

A luxury watch captures our attention. It can even start a conversation. Watch fans will want to know all about the bells and whistles on your watch. A study by the Luxury Institute, a research company that examines spending trends, showed that the most desirable luxury watch is all about making the wearer feel very special through exclusivity, quality, and status. The luxury watch market remains secure.

Luxury Swiss watches and many other kinds range from $1000 to tens of thousands. How much are you willing to spend? What kind of status symbol do you desire? Do you want a watch from an elite manufacturer, the kind you have to wait a few months for? Really serious watch wearers will wait for a watch that accommodates all your desires, everything you want as a symbol of prestige.

Are you looking for something in rose, white or yellow gold? Do you know the difference? The color changes depending on the copper and silver ratios mixed in with the usual yellow gold. Yellow is always a good call but other colors draw that all-important attention. Not every man can pull off a rose colored watch but if you do, you are making a very bold statement. You can also spend a chunk of change on a steel or titanium watch. Titanium is stronger than steel, it’s very light, and it sits comfortably on your wrist. It is a bit subdued in color and may not attract the attention you are looking for.

Do you want a mechanical or a quartz watch? A quartz watch is very accurate. A mechanical watch looses up to an hour a year.

How complicated do you want your watch to be? You can get a watch with a perpetual calendar, moon-phase indicator, or a split-second chronograph. Do you need a chronograph or chronometer? How water resistant does it need to be? You decide on the details and you will find a luxury watch that meets your requirements.

What should it look like– round or square, big or bigger? The trend is towards bigger watches, styled after an old Italian diver’s watch that was designed to be visible even in very murky water. You can find men’s luxury watches to suit any man.

Diamond pendants – From Mantle to Merchant

Undoubtedly, the diamond is the world’s most famous stone. "A diamond is forever." "Diamonds are a girl’s best friend." "Better a diamond with a flaw than a pebble without one." All of these adages signify the high value that our society places on diamonds. When we think of the most valuable substances on Earth, we typically think of items such as gold, coal, water, and diamonds. However, much of what we know about diamonds is based on observation and mystique.

Today, jewelry manufacturers use diamonds to produce many types of products, including rings, pendants, and necklaces. Why do they use diamonds? We know that diamonds are hard and shiny precious stones. We also know intuitively that these features make diamonds ideal for jewelry. However, what gives them such characteristics that make them one of the most popular precious stones in the world?

While humans can mine diamonds near the Earth’s surface, they actually form deep within the planet. Magma from the Earth’s mantle pushes upwards and then explodes at the Earth’s surface. This process can cause any type of minerals that are present, such as diamonds, to glide through a region. Long before diamonds become diamond pendants, this process creates pipes shaped like icicles–which consist of kimberlite rock. These pipes extend to roughly 2.5 kilometers below the Earth’s surface. Over a period of millions of years, the top levels of the pipes erode. This reveals any diamonds that they are holding.

If you were to buy candles for a diamond’s birthday cake: forget about it! A diamond’s upward journey from the Earth’s mantle to the surface causes it to have an age of roughly 3.3 billion years. Other diamonds form upon the impact of a meteorite, which makes some of them older than the age of our own solar system!

However, let us return to the question at hand: how do diamonds, such as those in jewelry, obtain their characteristics? The hardness of diamonds originates from the element carbon, which coal contains as well. The strongest type of chemical connectors, the covalent bond, "glues" together the carbon atoms of a diamond. The basic structural unit of diamonds includes eight carbon atoms, which exist as a cube. This inflexible and sturdy structure causes diamonds to be extremely hard and hard to melt. How hard are diamonds, such as those in diamond rings? On the Mohs Hardness Scale, they earn a score of 10, with 10 being the hardest substance available.

Meanwhile, what gives diamonds their "bling-bling" brilliance? The diamonds that humans mine are actually rough stones that they must process, in order to make them glitter. One of the key steps in this process is the cutting of the diamond. Experts use a variety of methods to cut and form the precious stone. These include:

•    Cleaving:  The cutter uses a steel blade to cut a rough diamond into two parts.
•    Sawing: The cutter uses a powerful saw with a rotating blade. He or she determines which areas will be the "table" and the "girdle," before cutting. An alternative is to use a laser, though that can cause the cutting to take hours.
•    Bruiting: This is the process that gives a diamond its form. Bruiting is actually the process of cutting a diamond by hand. When the cutter uses a machine, we call the process cutting.
•    Polishing: The cutter positions the diamond against a turning polishing wheel, which gives the precious stone a finished appearance.

While diamonds in diamond jewelry have similar characteristics, not all diamond jewelry is alike. Thus, how do you know which diamond jewelry (such as a solitaire diamond ring) is right for you? Here are some tips to make the process easier:

1. Learn the Four Cs
When choosing diamond jewelry, it is important to know the "Four Cs" of diamonds, to help you select the best pieces:

CARATS: Each 100 points of weight that a diamond has, is equivalent to one carat. Many shoppers of diamond jewelry wrongly assume that "bigger is always better." However, keep in mind that a smaller, flawless, and sparkling diamond is better than a larger diamond with many imperfections.

CLARITY: This indicates how "included" (flawed) a diamond is. Totally flawless diamonds are rare and quite pricey. However, even if a diamond is not impeccable, you should avoid purchasing jewelry that contains flaws such as chips and cracks.

COLOR: Diamonds can range from colorless to brown. The letters D to Z indicate the amount of color that a diamond has. When selecting a piece of jewelry with multiple diamonds, it is important that each stone has uniform coloring.

CUT: This determines the brilliance or "fire" of a diamond. The cutting that the diamond cutter performs before the precious stone becomes part of diamond pendants, determines how he or she creates the facets of the diamond. This process is important. It influences the reflection and refraction (bending) of light, as it contacts the surface of the diamonds.

2. Know your budget before you start shopping
This tip is important whether you are shopping offline or online. When searching for diamond jewelry, it can be tempting to select dazzling pieces that are far beyond your budget. However, try to stay focused and buy jewelry within your means.

3. Choose the right jeweler
You can take various steps to achieve this goal. Choose jewelers based on your relatives’ and friends’ personal recommendations. Pick smaller "Mom and Pop" jewelers, rather than large chains. Be wary of jewelers that frequently have too-good-to-be-true sales. It is highly likely that the jeweler had already inflated the prices! Finally, be very cautious about jewelers who ask you to open a charge account before you examine their products.

Today, companies use dazzling diamonds to create an array of jewelry, such as diamond rings. Before selecting such diamond jewelry, it is important to consider the aforementioned matters. That will help you to choose the best diamond jewelry for your particular needs. Shopping for hard diamonds will be easier!

The Difference Between a Conflict and Non Conflict Diamond

If you like buying diamonds from many different parts of the world, you are likely very much aware of the need for having the diamonds appraised to ensure that they are worth the money that you pay. This is usually done through IGI appraisals, the GIA or by buying EGL loose diamonds. One of the things you need to look for when buying diamonds outside the country is that it is a non conflict diamond.

Conflict diamonds, also called blood diamonds, come from countries where diamonds are mined and sold as a way of obtaining money needed to finance wars and terrorist acts. Quite often, children are used in the extraction of diamond and work under harsh conditions in the mines.

The United Nations has a published list of countries known to use conflict diamonds to further their own cause. You need to make sure that the diamond you are buying is a non conflict diamond, that nobody has been hurt in the diamond mining process, and that nobody will be because of the purchase.

Diamonds that are legally mined and sold in Africa are non conflict diamonds because they do further the economy of the country. Due to the pain and suffering inflicted through diamonds being mined and sold in countries experiencing conflict, the UN put a resolution in place in 2003 to restrict the purchase of diamonds from these areas of the world.

The Kimberley Process is one of the measures put in place for the identification of non conflict diamonds. There are certain procedures to be followed by those shipping diamonds out of the country, which are:

·         Controls. Diamonds shipped across an international border must be sealed in a tamper-resistant package and have a Kimberley Process Certificate that has been issued by the government of the country.

·         Legislation. Each country participating in this process must have laws in place regarding the mining of diamonds and the purchase and sale of the stones.

·         Limited Countries. To prevent fraud, each country is only allowed to export diamonds to certain countries on the approved list.

When you buy diamonds that you know come from a country in Africa, you should ask the seller where the diamonds come from and whether or not they are sure they are non conflict diamonds. By asking further questions, such as whether the diamonds have been though IGI appraisals or are considered GIA diamond rings, you will be able to ascertain whether or not the seller has the Kimberley Process certificate and has therefore imported the stones legally.

Once you start asking questions, if this is a legitimate seller, you will have little difficulty getting the answers you need. The Kimberley Process covers the certification of rough diamonds only and attests to where they came from. It has nothing to do with what happens to the diamond after it has been sold. Therefore appraisal of a diamond is essential to ensure that it is worth the purchase price.

Certified jewelers and gemologists are very much aware that people are often taken in at the sight of a large diamond being offered for a cheap price when they do not realize that the diamond is not real or worth far less than the price charged. What happens after you purchase rough diamonds is completely up to you.

If you are buying loose diamonds and you know that they are non conflict diamonds, your best source of information is the EGL, which is the European Gemological Society. EGL loose diamonds are certified for diamond authenticity and according to the grading scale established for the four C’s of diamonds. There are four laboratories for analyzing and assessing diamonds—Antwerp, Belgium, Los Angeles, and New York.

Luxury Watches ??” How to Extend the Life of your Watch

The luxury watch you have purchased must be the source of great pride and satisfaction. You certainly wish it would be functionally perfect and stay with you for as long time.  Assuming that the watch you have purchased is of high quality and carries a reliable mechanical or quartz movement, you have nothing to worry about because these types of wrist watches typically last longer than others.

This does not mean to say that you can be neglectful with your watch. Even if you have bought an expensive, top of the line brand of watch, your timepiece still requires proper care and maintenance for it to last a lifetime and be the practical, functional and stylish accessory for you.

There are many factors that can easily shorten the life of any wrist watch. And if you want your watch to have a long life, it is imperative that you avoid these scenarios as they can be harmful to your favorite timepiece.

Here are some of the elements to avoid if you want your watch to last a long time:

Dropping
Dropping won’t instantly kill your watch especially if it is of high quality but even if occasional drops are not entirely fatal, you still need to avoid this as much as you can. Dropping can cause the parts inside the watch to loosen up and eventually make the watch break apart. Be careful when wearing or taking your watch off as these are commonly when most drops occur.

Strong magnetic forces
Many fine watches are said to be antimagnetic to some degree but this is not to say that these can withstand very strong magnetic forces without being adversely affected in the long run.

This is because a watch has many metal components inside it which are interacting in many ways to keep the watch running and operating smoothly. With this said, it is important to make sure that you keep your watch from any strong magnetic force such as audio speakers, computer monitors, and refrigerators because they can easily make most  watches, even swiss watches especially those with mechanical movements run erratically or stop working.

If ever your watch becomes magnetized, bring it immediately to a service center and their demagnetizing equipment can get your watch back to normal working condition again.

Perfume and other chemical elements
While it’s common for people especially women to wear perfume under their ladies watches, it is highly advisable to avoid this. You will not notice the effect immediately but a long term effect of wearing perfume or cologne on the same wrist where you wear watch will cause for the alcohol in the perfume to affect the lubrication of the watch.

It is also best to avoid any direct contact with chemical products such as solvents, detergents, and other cosmetic products because they can damage the gasket, bracelet or case of the watch.

Sea water
If your watch is waterproof, it’s probable that you wouldn’t even think twice before dipping into the sea with your watch on. Of course, that’s all right since waterproof watches are specifically designed to be in contact with water. However, it is important that you are able to rinse the watch with warm water after exposing it to sea water. Some luxury watches for example have bands that can be discolored and deformed when constantly exposed to water and dampness.

Heat and Sunlight
Since you wear your watch all the time, it is understandably hard to avoid wearing it outdoors under the strong sunlight. However, it is still important that you avoid constantly exposing your watch to direct sunlight as the heat can have a negative effect on the watch’s lubricant or the age dials. It can also cause the color of the band to eventually fade. Also, your watch needs to stay away from sources of heat like saunas or steam baths. Moisture inside your watch is not good news.

Shocks
Your watch may be shock-resistant but it’s not okay to play with its shockproof abilities. Whatever kind of shock it is—thermal, vibration, sudden shock or whatever, it is always recommended that you avoid them for the sake of your watch. Constant exposure to shocks can eventually lead to mechanical failure.

Extreme temperatures
Avoid exposing your watch to extreme temperatures of above 60 degrees Celsius and below 0 degrees Celsius.

More Tips on Watch Care
• Store watches properly especially if you are not going to use it for a long time. Keep it in an appropriately sized watch box or in a Zip lock bag which is an effective way to keep the freshness of the watch.

• Have your watch serviced regularly. Service intervals largely depend on the brand of the watch but it usually takes about 5 years before you need to have it serviced again.

• Replace the battery once in 18 to 24 months. If the watch has stopped, be sure to take out the battery immediately as this can leak and damage the internal mechanisms of the watch.

• Read the watch manual carefully. This way, you will know the capabilities and limits of your watch and it will be easier for you to avoid abusing your timepiece.

• Clean your watch with a soft brush. You can soap and rinse the bracelet if it’s made of metal or plastic but if it is leather, gently wipe it with a dry cloth.

It is true that caring for your watch may require some effort. With so many things to avoid and so many things to do, it is understandable to forget a tip or two sometimes.  But if you really want to make your watch last for a long time, you will be meticulous about its maintenance..

So whether it’s a designer watches or discount watches, it doesn’t matter. Whatever timepiece you have on your wrist, it is always advisable that you take proper care of it. After all wrist watches are one of the most useful and dependable accessories we own. They certainly deserve a bit of care and attention.
